Science-Based Targets (SBTs) are greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets set in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep global temperature increase below 1.5°C. This allows companies to understand the global context of its emissions and operations and creates an environment for innovation and collaboration on carbon reduction. As organizations’ existing targets are completed and new ones are set, there is increasing public expectation that they are done in line with a real commitment towards maintaining a sustainable global temperature. Making such a commitment enables companies to demonstrate--both internally and publicly--that their carbon reduction programs are credible in the long term, ensuring any license to operate remains beyond dispute. The adoption of a longer-term strategic view will also help companies reduce costs and identify risks and opportunities associated with the shift to a low-carbon economy.
ADEC ESG Solutions has the experience to support companies in every step of the target-setting process, from modeling possible targets, to evaluating Scope 3 target options, to guiding companies through the formal submission process with the Science-Based Targets Initiative.
